2010 Letter to Our Customers
Dear Gardening Friends,
We would like to extend a sincere thank you for your loyal support throughout the years. We strive to maintain this treasured relationship by providing you with quality grown, unique garden plants and knowledgeable customer service all bundled within our ever so protective packages delivered directly to your gardens. Our goal is to ensure that our plants are garden ready and with routine care and planning they will become joyful additions to your gardens and landscapes.
All of our new and interesting 2010 offerings can be found anytime on our website. Within the website you will discover the Sparrow's Nest, featuring numerous new and exciting selections that are not in our print catalog. We are confined to only 74 pages in our print catalog though we have many more offerings we'd love to share with you. Check back often as the Sparrow's Nest selection changes frequently throughout the year. We are also trying to make the daunting task of garden design a bit simpler by adding "Companion Plants" to each online plant selection. Companion Plants have similar cultural needs and are natural pairings.
The 2010 catalog is more exciting than ever before! Grasses and Bamboo are now featured in their own section; elegant and hardy garden components that provide interest in all seasons. We're also delighted to introduce many new conifers. Although many are known to be notoriously slow in their growth habit, with proper time and spacing they become structurally invaluable. Our Junior Conifer selections are economically sized and priced and are a perfect fit for trough or railroad gardens. New offerings of Daylilies, Rock Garden and Herbaceous Peonies from Roy's extensive breeding programs are listed, some of which are making their first time debut.
Our enchantingly popular Tree Peonies have returned along with their cousins, the Intersectional Peonies. Planted amongst the garden border or in a cherished area, these long-lived plants easily become the kings and the queens of any garden. Within our Sun Perennials, a wide selection of Poppies, Geranium, Echinacea and many more hardy selections will dazzle you with their brilliant colors. For the classic shade garden, our extensive Hosta selection offers a colorful palette from which to choose. Don't forget what lovely combinations may be found with Hosta and other perennials from the Shade section. Who can deny the summer beauty of Clematis? Many of our selections climb upwards, though we are pleased to offer a few that do not; instead they scramble through adjacent companion plantings.
Perhaps a few of you have noticed we've embarked upon a new design this year and we hope you find as much beauty in the new design as we do. Click here to identify all lovely garden plants featured on our front cover. As always, we appreciate your feedback and look forward to your many emails and calls. We wish you much success in your garden endeavors, where ever they may take you.
Wishing you the Best of 2010,
The staff at Song Sparrow

History of Song Sparrow Perennial Farm
The Klehm Family and the horticulture industry share a long and storied history together. The relationship dates back to 1852 when John Adam Klehm immigrated from Germany to Arlington Heights, Illinois. There he started a nursery business, principally fruit trees. John had three sons: George, Charles & Henry. All became active in the nursery business. It was Charles Klehm who developed a love for flowers. He was a charter member of the American Peony Society formed in 1903. In 1916 he planted his first peony fields where 'Emma Klehm' and 'Charlie's White' and many more varieties of Klehm Estate Peonies were hybridized, introduced and patented.
In 1943 Charles Klehm formed a partnership with his son Carl under the name Charles Klehm & Son Nursery. The nursery moved from Arlington Heights to South Barrington, Illinois in the 1960's and operated until 2004 under the direction of one of Carl Klehm's sons, Roy Klehm. Roy has introduced many new plant varieties over the years including woody introductions as well as herbaceous plants, many of which are daylilies, peonies and hosta. He has worked with breeders to introduce some of the best shade trees, crabapples, magnolias and lilacs in the industry. Roy and his wife Sarah own and operate Klehm's Song Sparrow Farm in southern Wisconsin. Roy's brother, Arnold operates a wholesale orchid operation, Arnold J. Klehm Growers, in Hampshire, Illinois.
Throughout our history it has been a goal of every Klehm business to supply the highest quality nursery stock with the best possible service. We strive to help our customers succeed by working alongside them and continually improving the horticulture industry through knowledge, hard work and experience. As always, we look forward to working with you in the future.

We ship worldwide. Two weeks prior to your scheduled ship date, you will receive a brokerage quote, provided by a reputable brokerage service, for freight delivery charges for your plant order. Your freight quote is valid for 30 days. Please review the freight delivery charges and forward your approval to Song Sparrow Farm. Your approved freight charges will then be added to your order. At your request, for an additional cost, the brokerage company can supply insurance coverage for your cargo against damage, loss, fire, war or seizure. If you do not notify Song Sparrow of this addition, we will assume that you do not want this additional coverage on your shipment. Pending your approval, Song Sparrow will proceed with your order for delivery. Effective 2010-All freight delivery charges are directly payable to Song Sparrow Farm and now included in the total cost of your plant order. All other fees associated with destination charges, duties, taxes and VAT are still the customer's responsibility payable directly to the broker at the time of receipt. Song Sparrow is unable to make any modifications to your order once the Phytosanitary Certificate is applied for.
If a Permit to Import is required from your country, the customer is required to supply Song Sparrow with this original documentation prior to shipping.
All funds paid to Klehm's Song Sparrow must be in U.S. dollars prior to harvest. Song Sparrow will bill you for the following charges at the time of shipping: the cost of your order, a 5% boxing fee with a minimum of $10.00, and the cost of a Phytosanitary Certificate, $100.00, which we will provide and freight delivery charges, pending your approval.
Payment by wire transfer will include an automatic U.S. $25.00 wire transfer fee. At your request, bank information can be forwarded. You will receive notification from Song Sparrow once your shipment has left our facility.
Another delivery option: United Parcel Services, U.P.S., is currently available for foreign deliveries. Please contact us for more information regarding foreign shipments into your country. Two weeks prior to your scheduled ship date, you will receive from Song Sparrow, a quote from U.P.S. for approximate delivery charges. The approximate cost of shipping must be charged to your order prior to delivery, which was previously calculated based upon approximate box weight and count. This may be subject to change at the time of delivery. U.P.S. will notify you of all customs clearance, duties and taxes, which are solely your responsibility. If over payment or under payment exceeds $10.00, notification will be sent of an additional debit or credit. Song Sparrow does charge a $15.00 processing fee which will be added to your invoice. If you are a business and have an open account with U.P.S., please provide your U.P.S. account number and this service may be credited to your account prior to shipment. Please review your quote.
