Yes, we are immersed in plants, but an intriguing leaf, vivid bloom, or striking habit still turns our heads!
Each year, as we grow our new plants and prepare our catalog, we cannot help but notice and then picture some new object of botanical affection freshly planted in our very own garden. Here are a few that are on our wish list for 2012, and why they caught our attention: |
Hellebore 'Amber Gem'
Spring blooms are always longed for in our wintry zone, especially in lemony yellow with rosy blush tones. |
Clematis 'Odoriba'
This one brings out the matchmaker in us, we are picturing it contrasting and vining through its larger sized cousins. |
Veronica 'Whitewater' PPAF
We not only love this low grower's fresh white blooms, but also its deep green, scalloped-edge foliage. |

Hosta 'Empress Wu' PP20,774
Sometimes we can't help but want the LARGEST! Plus, it is just so fun to say her name. (And it gets even better, we came across her in a history book as the notorious Empress Wu!) |
Peony 'Wisconsin Cream'
Large, creamy white blooms with smooth guard petals make a statement in a most elegant way. And, we confess, we are fond of "foodie" names! |
Echinacea 'Solar Flare' PP22,133
Among all the wonderful new Echinacea, this one stood out for us with its very large blooms that have vivid petals radiating straight out from dark centers. |
Daylily 'Cardinal Royale'
When you love red, the more buds the better, and this one has them in abundance! The bright throats give it even more visual pop. |
Chamaecyparis 'Fairy Puff'
The small, adorable factor comes into play here! Only 1' tall x 2' wide in 10 years with frosted, feathery foliage. |
Hosta 'Luna Moth'
Hosta with bright contrasts often catch the eye, (this one's edges brighten to yellow), but we also love the subtle softer coloring of the emergent foliage. |
Chamaecyparis o. 'Vokel's Upright'
Conical, dwarf evergreen makes us think fairy lights. Whether planted alone or in a group: enchanting! |
Tree Peony 'Lavender Grace'
Flamboyant blooms mark the seasons in a most wonderful way! This beauty will announce spring in luscious lavender with dark plum accents. |
Tsuga canadensis 'Pendula'
We are always partial to the lacy foliage of Hemlocks, and the weeping habit of this one will bring an understated yet stunning touch to the garden. |
