Charming, dainty deciduous leaflets emerge a dark purple in early spring forming a stunning backdrop for the airy, large rosy-pink flowers with prominent pure white spurs. Epimedium 'Dark Beauty' originated in the famed New York garden of the late Harold Epstein.
Spring-blooming Epimedium are delicate looking plants with a strong constitution, tolerating deep shade and tree root competition. Ideally they enjoy well drained, organic soil with even moisture, but they are also drought resistant when established, making them a great choice for dry shade. Very appealing, refined foliage. A long-lived perennial for the front of a shady bed, as a groundcover, or in woodland gardens. Deer resistant. Epimedium are also known as Barrenwort, Bishop's Hat, or Fairy Wings.
