Fragrant small yellow blooms along the branches in early spring before the foliage emerges. Lovely yellow fall color. Versatile native shrub tolerates clay soil, drought (when established), dense shade, and deer. Fall color is best in sunny areas. Light green leaves are aromatic when crushed, hence the common name of Spicebush. The leaves are a favorite food of the Spicebush Butterfly caterpillar.
