This female Bayberry shrub has a dense, broad-oval habit with attractive, shiny, gray-green foliage. Leaves are leathery and aromatic when crushed.
Easily grown in average, dry to medium, well-drained soils in full sun to part shade. Best in slightly acidic, moist soil. Does well on dry, sandy, infertile soils once established. Tolerant of wet soil and salt spray. Use Myrica Silver SpriteTM in low shrub borders, naturalized plantings, and herb gardens.
If a pollinator such as Myrica 'Morton Male' is planted nearby, waxy blue-gray fruit will develop and persist into winter. Plant within 10' of each other for good fruit production, one male plant can pollinate multiple female plants. The fruits are used to make bayberry candles and are also attractive to birds.
