Beautiful horizontally tiered branches display striking foliage. Green leaves have a broad clean yellow margin which changes to yellow-green as the season advances. Fall color is a range of pinkish hues. Creamy-white flowers are held upright in flat-topped clusters during early summer. Prefers a partly shaded, moist location. Cornus controversa 'Janine' was discovered as a branch sport of the species by Oregon plantsman Gary Hardy and named for his daughter.
