Lavender flowers with white spurs above green leaves lightly edged in purple. The second flush of growth brings a wider and more defined reddish purple edging along the foliage. Epimedium 'Swallowtail' is a compact grower, just 7" tall in bloom, and 12" tall after second flush of growth emerges.
Spring-blooming Epimedium are delicate looking plants with a strong constitution, tolerating deep shade and tree root competition. Ideally they enjoy well drained, organic soil with even moisture, but they are also drought resistant when established, making them a great choice for dry shade. Very appealing, refined foliage. A long-lived perennial for the front of a shady bed, as a groundcover, or in woodland gardens. Deer resistant. Epimedium are also known as Barrenwort, Bishop's Hat, or Fairy Wings.
