Maclura 'White Shield' has branches that are distinctly upright with glossy, dark green leaves. An exceptionally fast-growing form once established. Does not bear fruit and is the most thornless of the Osage Orange cultivars, this heat and drought tolerant Midwest native is a good choice for a tough urban tree. Once established, it tolerates drought, wet sites, pollution, wind, salt spray, clay soils, and hot sites. It can also handle a wide range of pH, including highly alkaline soils. It matures at approximately 25-40' tall and wide.
