Astilbes are long-lived perennials. They prefer rich, organic soil; mulch to keep moisture levels steady. Light shade is ideal for the most flowers. Grow in shady beds and borders and at the edge of a wooded area. The ferny foliage looks great with broad-leaved Hosta. Astilbe are deer resistant.
