Amber-orange spurred flowers that are held above two distinct layers of foliage. Graceful, tall wiry stems. Spiny holly-like leaflets that are green with strong russet mottling when juvenile and all green when mature. Semi-evergreen with a clumping habit. Beautiful warm color for the spring garden.
Spring-blooming Epimedium are delicate looking plants with a strong constitution, tolerating deep shade and tree root competition. Ideally they enjoy well drained, organic soil with even moisture, but they are also drought resistant when established, making them a great choice for dry shade. Very appealing, refined foliage. A long-lived perennial for the front of a shady bed, as a groundcover, or in woodland gardens. Deer resistant. Epimedium are also known as Barrenwort, Bishop's Hat, or Fairy Wings.
