Memorable name for this appealing plant! Acer japonicum 'Emmett's Pumpkin', turns a rich pumpkin orange in fall. Early season leaves are green with a reddish-orange blush. A slow-growing Japanese Maple with an open but bushy form. Prefers well-drained soil.
The Golden Full Moon Maple has been revered for over 200 years in Japan. Golden yellow spring leaves turn chartreuse in summer, often with red along the margins, then to scarlet, lastly a golden brown in fall. Compact, dense, rounded habit. Avoid exposed, hot, dry situations. Acer shirasawanum 'Aureum' makes a stunning and colorful addition to the landscape.
A vigorous Golden Full Moon Maple whose young coppery-orange spring and summer leaves mature to chartreuse. Rich orange fall color. Acer shirasawanum 'Autumn Moon' performs much better in heat and humidity than other selections of the species. Light afternoon shade is recommended, especially further south.

Deep lavender-blue buds lighten as they open; the spires of blooms create a soft two-tone effect, just like a favorite pair of jeans. Baptisia 'Faded Jeans' blooms in late spring to early summer in Lupine-like racemes. Very nice companion for Peonies.

Baptisia, also known as False Indigo, has attractive blue-green foliage and ornamental seed pods. A wonderful and long-lived choice for perennial borders, cottage gardens, or mingled with native plants in a meadow or prairie type planting. Quirky and appealing little evergreen. This Hinoki Cypress is a dwarf, upright evergreen with very fine gray-green foliage. Very curious and delicate in appearance, but easy to grow. Plant Chamaecyparis 'Chirimen' in an area with well drained soil, also suitable for trugs and other containers.
Fresh emerald green, fern-like foliage on an appealing, small, upright tree. Each branch tapers to a fine point. Chamaecyparis obtusa 'Filicoides Compacta', also known as Fernleaf Hinoki Cypress, is excellent as a focal point or as part of an evergreen screen. If desired, pruning results in a denser habit. Grow in moist, well-drained soil in full sun or light shade.

Red-pink blooms in late spring followed by fluffy seed-heads. Fern-like green leaves. Geum triflorum is also known as Prairie Smoke for the feathery seed heads that follow the nodding, rounded, red-pink blooms.

This North American native plant prefers dry, well-drained soils in full sun. Will grow in medium moisture soils, too, as long as there is good drainage. Avoid wet winter soils. In hotter areas light shade is appreciated. Grow at the front of a border or plant in a naturalized area with other wildflowers. When established, tolerates drought. Deer resistant.

In spring, the carmine-red pollen cones provide a dramatic contrast to the long, twisted, blue-green needles of this rare Japanese White Pine. Pinus 'Bergman' matures to form a compact, rounded shrub to small tree with a wide, irregular, upright habit that makes a nice architectural accent.
Soft, blue-green needles on this slow-growing, compact Japanese White Pine with a broad pyramidal shape. Branches are not uniform, creating a more interesting form in a smaller plant, more like that of an older tree. From the Von Gimborn Arboretum in Holland, which has one of the largest conifer collections in Western Europe. Grow Pinus 'Gimborn's Pyramid' as a focal point, as part of an conifer collection, or near a seating area where its unique form can be appreciated at close range.
Strikingly narow! Pinus 'Stowe Column' is a columnar Eastern White Pine with dense blue-green foliage and a very narrow, upright habit. Found by Greg Williams in Vermont, near Stowe Mountain. Excellent choice in restricted spaces. Adapts to snow loads better than the type. Makes an outstanding focal point.



A petite exclamation point for the garden! This dwarf Yew has a narrow pillar-like form and glossy, deep green needles. New growth is bright lime green. Taxus 'Minute Westons' is perfect for a rock garden, miniature railroad setting, or conifer collection. Suitable for containers. Prefers sun to partial shade in well-drained soil.
Great color, interesting form. A dwarf evergreen with an irregular upright habit. New growth is butter-yellow. Taxus 'Rezek's Gold' prefers morning sun and afternoon shade in an area with well-drained soil. Grow near a patio to enjoy the color and form at close range or in a rock garden to brighten the setting.
