Stiff, contorted branches with mahogany red bark contrast dramatically with the twisting, threadlike foliage, which displays shades that vary from yellow to gold and even chartreuse toward the interior. This miniature Hemlock is among the smallest in the genus. Site it where the small rounded form, with its tiny, dark-green needles will be easy to see, in a trough, rock garden or raised bed. Despite its diminutive size, the plant is tough and hardy, but it does appreciate protection from hot afternoon sun.
The long, arching branches of this erect, irregularly-shaped Hemlock have pendulous branchlets covered with abundant, dark-green needles. The tree's smooth gray bark combines with its swooping branches, draping branchlets and small cones and buds to create a uniquely elegant look in the landscape.
