Dashes of light colored seed heads animate this striking grass. Narrow, blue-gray leaf blades create a dense 12-18" tall clump in summer. Dainty, waxy, bell-shaped flowers are pink instead of the typical white. The late spring flowers are followed by medium to small, edible dark blue blueberries that ripen in early summer. Dark green leaves turn shades of red and purple in fall. Vaccinium 'Sunshine Blue' is a Southern Highbush Blueberry cultivar; it has a low chilling requirement for fruit set. Self-fertile, but generally will have more fruit if planted near a pollinator. Very compact habit. Evergreen in mild winters. Blueberries prefer acid soil, but this one is relatively tolerant of less acid soils. Plant in organically rich, well drained soil, and mulch to maintain moisture levels. This vigorously growing blue Hosta forms a full, symmetrical, wide mound that really makes a statement in the landscape. The elongated wedge-shaped leaves with wavy margins hold their blue color well into summer, eventually turning blue-green late in the season. Near-white flowers on 20-26" scapes in midsummer.
