Cultivated in the west for over 400 years, the fernleaf peony form the steppes of central Europe is thought to have been a treasured possession on the westward bound wagons of the early American settlers. Spectacular in both foliage and flower, the dark-green finely divided foliage goes dormant by mid-summer. In spring, the single deep red flowers of this early bloomer are enhanced by golden yellow stamen, and appear to rest just above the foliage mound. Tolerant of drier conditions than most peonies. A sunny well drained location is ideal. Ships bare root in fall.
Peonies have large, spectacular blooms in late spring to early summer. A favorite for cut flower bouquets, the Peony is an easily grown, long lived, deer resistant perennial. Shipped bare root from September to November.
