Lavender clusters of large-spurred flowers float above mahogany-red foliage in spring which in time turns reddish-bronze-green. Deciduous. Epimedium 'Bronze Maiden' is another fine choice from the Epimedium master, Darrell Probst.
Spring-blooming Epimedium are delicate looking plants with a strong constitution, tolerating deep shade and tree root competition. Ideally they enjoy well drained, organic soil with even moisture, but they are also drought resistant when established, making them a great choice for dry shade. Very appealing, refined foliage. A long-lived perennial for the front of a shady bed, as a groundcover, or in woodland gardens. Deer resistant. Epimedium are also known as Barrenwort, Bishop's Hat, or Fairy Wings.
