A very exceptional deep purple form. With its rich plum purple buds, it is lovely even before it blooms. Small leaves emerge a muted rose then turn green as the season progresses. Epimedium 'Purple Prince' is just 8" tall as it begins to bloom, after flowering a second flush of leaves it grows to 18". Deciduous.
Spring-blooming Epimedium are delicate looking plants with a strong constitution, tolerating deep shade and tree root competition. Ideally they enjoy well drained, organic soil with even moisture, but they are also drought resistant when established, making them a great choice for dry shade. Very appealing, refined foliage. A long-lived perennial for the front of a shady bed, as a groundcover, or in woodland gardens. Deer resistant. Epimedium are also known as Barrenwort, Bishop's Hat, or Fairy Wings.
